Cyprus holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU from 1 January to 30 June 2026. Below the slogan “An Autonomous Union. Open to the World,” the Presidency focuses on 5 overarching priorities:
- Autonomy by way of Safety, Defence Readiness and Preparedness
- Autonomy by way of Competitiveness
- Open to the World, Autonomous
- An Autonomous Union of Values that Leaves No One Behind
- A protracted-term price range for an autonomous Union
Migration and Dwelling Affairs Priorities
Throughout its Presidency, Cyprus will give attention to efficient migration administration of each – its inner and exterior dimensions.
The Cyprus Presidency will prioritise the total implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum and can promote a strengthened return system and cooperation with key non-EU nations to make sure a balanced and complete strategy.
The Presidency may even give attention to combatting inner threats, corresponding to organised and transnational crime, terrorism, and violent extremism, together with challenges within the digital sphere. Swift and decisive motion is required, according to the ProtectEU Strategy, to strengthen regulation enforcement capabilities, improve transnational cooperation and enhance the regulatory framework.
